Going to therapy can feel like leaving the table
For many adults it is not the first hard step. It is the one nobody at home will understand.
This page is for the person who loves their family and is tired, and for the family that is worried about what happens in a therapist's room. You do not have to choose between them. We have done this work for adults whose families expect them to be strong, to stay close and to keep it in the family, and we start from respect for all of that.

Questions people bring to the first session
Is it disloyal to talk to a stranger?
Many people feel it is. Wanting to be well so you can keep showing up for your family is not disloyalty, and we say so out loud.
What if my family does not want me to come?
You are an adult and the choice is yours. We can talk through how to tell them, or whether to tell them at all.
Will you tell me to cut people off?
No. Your clinician does not decide who belongs in your life. We help you see what you want and what it would cost.
Can my faith be part of it?
If you want it to be. We do not bring in religion ourselves, and we do not ask you to leave it out.
What if I do not say things the way a therapist wants?
There is no right way. Say it in English, in Spanish or in both, in the words you would use at home.
What does my family hear from you?
Nothing, unless you ask us in writing. We do not confirm that you are a client to anyone.
If someone in your family asks us
A parent, a spouse or a sibling may call us. We can tell them that we cannot say whether you are a client. We can listen to what they want to say, and we will pass it on only if you ask us to.
If you want a family member to join a session, we talk about it with you first. You decide who comes, and you can ask them to leave at any point.
Three more questions
Is this therapy only for Latino clients?
We built Reverie for Latino adults, and everyone is welcome to write to us.
Do you see children or teens?
No. We see adults only, 18 and over. We can give you the names of colleagues.
Do I need to speak Spanish to come?
No. Most sessions are in English. Spanish is there when the words come easier that way.
